FIB USU in celebration of its 58th Anniversary raised the theme of a scientific oration packaged under the title "Campus Internationalization in the Frame of National Culture" and will be explained by the Japanese Consul General Dr. Takonai Susumu with the theme "How Japan's Strategy for Maintaining Japanese Culture in Campus Internationalization". Japan maintaining its traditional culture amidst globalization is a question frequently asked by Indonesian students so far, perhaps because Japan is the only country in Asia that has succeeded in becoming a developed country apart from Western countries.

There were two major periods when Japan was heavily influenced by Western culture. The first was during the Meiji Restoration in 1868. At that time, Japan had only recently opened its borders to the outside world after years of seclusion. The second was a period of rapid economic growth: from 1955 to 1973, Japan experienced rapid economic growth, and the lifestyle of Japanese society changed dramatically. Consul General of Japan Dr. Takonai Susumu also hopes that the Scientific Oration delivered today will help in considering the direction that Indonesian society should take in the midst of globalization.
